Estate Planning Coordination - Your Wealth Your Wishes
We help clients build estate strategies that work, and stay coordinated with the rest of their financial plan.
Estate planning is one of the most personal conversations in financial life. It involves decisions about family, values, legacy, and what you want the people you care about to inherit, not just financially, but in terms of responsibility, opportunity, and meaning.
At Helium Advisors, we approach estate planning as a coordination challenge: how do your legal documents, your account structures, your beneficiary designations, your retirement accounts, your business interests, and your charitable goals all work together? In our experience, they rarely do, without intentional planning.
Our Role in Estate Planning
We serve as the bridge between your financial plan and your estate plan, ensuring that the two are aligned and that nothing falls through the gap between disciplines. Specifically, we help clients:
- Review and coordinate beneficiary designations across all accounts, retirement accounts, life insurance, annuities, and transfer-on-death designations, to ensure they reflect current intentions and are consistent with trust or will provisions
- Analyze account titling and ownership structure, how assets are titled affects both estate planning and taxes; inconsistencies between account titles and trust documents are among the most common estate planning errors
- Coordinate with estate planning attorneys, we work alongside your attorney to ensure the financial picture informs the documents, and that documents are updated as the financial plan evolves
- Evaluate estate tax exposure, for larger estates, we model potential estate tax liability and help clients think through strategies that may reduce the taxable estate over time
- Incorporate charitable strategies, donor-advised funds, charitable remainder trusts, and direct charitable bequests can serve both legacy goals and tax efficiency
- Plan for business interests, if you own a business, it is likely one of the largest assets in your estate; ownership structures, buy-sell agreements, and transition planning all intersect with estate strategy
- Coordinate life insurance in the estate plan, life insurance can serve multiple roles: income replacement, estate liquidity, key person coverage, and irrevocable trust funding
Common Issues We Help Clients Resolve
- Outdated beneficiary designations that no longer reflect family circumstances
- Retirement accounts that have grown significantly but are not coordinated with the estate plan
- Trust documents that were drafted years ago and have not been reviewed since
- Business interests with no succession or estate plan in place
- Charitable intentions that have never been formalized into a giving structure
- Estates with potential tax exposure and no mitigation strategy in place
